Prisoners have been involved in fighting forest fires in California


About 1,000 prisoners were involved in the fight against large-scale forest fires in the city of Los Angeles, California, USA, Newsweek magazine reported.



According to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), a total of 939 inmates participate in firefighting. which are designed to prevent the spread of fire.



According to the CDCR, about 30% of the total number of fire fighters in California are convicted felons.

At least 16 people have died as a result of wildfires raging in the state of California.



Fires raged in California on the evening of January 7. The speed of the wind spreading the fire was 48 km/h, reaching 112 km/h in some places, and up to 105 km/h in the settlements. Hundreds of thousands of people were evacuated from the natural disaster zone.
