On December 16, human rights defender Anahit Manasyan visited the "Mkhitar Sebasatsi" educational complex and gave a lecture to the students of the high school-research institute.
In his speech, the Defender first highlighted the importance of holding meetings with schoolchildren in such a format from the point of view of improving human rights education, then discussed with high school students a number of issues related to the priorities of human rights protection, presented local and international best practices in the field.
"As a human rights defender, I value not only working for people, but also working with people. Human rights are about life.
They were created so that a person can feel dignified and protected. It is the responsibility of the state to ensure the protection of human rights and consistently develop them based on the supremacy of law and human-centered values," said the Defender.
Anahit Manasyan also referred to the directions of his activities, the scope of his powers, noting that sometimes people misperceive the mandate of the Human Rights Defender. "I try to communicate with people as much as possible, to present the scope of the Human Rights Defender's powers, because there is a misconception that everything is related to the Defender's mandate."
During the meeting held in question and answer format, among other things, the Defender also spoke about equality of rights, the principle of non-discrimination, frequently encountered cases of violations of professional ethics of lawyers and persons engaged in the protection of human rights and their inadmissibility.
Reference was also made to the activity of the public council on the protection of children's rights under HRD.
Summarizing the speech, Anahit Manasyan emphasized the importance of combining the efforts of each of us, implementing any positive changes in our own environment in order to overcome the existing problems in the field of human rights protection.
