The European Commission (EC) has instructed EU member states to start negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova on membership of the community. According to "Armenpress", EU representative Ana Pizonero announced this at the press conference held in Brussels. We think that this issue is closed. We have provided an update to member states that we believe Ukraine and Moldova have met all conditions. The decision is now in the hands of the member states," he was quoted as saying by TASS. The EU representative emphasized that, according to the European Commission, Kyiv has fulfilled all the conditions, including those proposed by Hungary regarding the protection of the rights of national minorities. The European Commission announced on March 12 that it has developed a framework directive for future accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova and will present it to the EU Council. As the EC explained, the framework directive defines "the guiding principles for accession negotiations with each candidate country." After the European Commission submits the directive to member states and the EU Council approves the directive, Brussels will effectively begin negotiations with Kyiv and Chisinau.
