The Washington administration will not insist on introducing a $250 bill with the image of the current US President Donald Trump if Congress does not approve it, Finance Minister Scott Besant said on June 3. "Of course," he said when asked if the administration would abandon the plan if Congress did not approve the bill.
"We will follow the law," the minister assured during the hearings of the Senate Finance Committee. Besant confirmed at the end of May that his department is working on the bill. As he noted at the time, a legislative change will be necessary for its introduction.
The minister also noted that "at present, no person can appear on the American currency". He added that the bill amending this requirement is being discussed in the House of Representatives.
