Seoul. South Korea jams GPS signals, disrupting shipping and aviation

The Joint Chiefs of Staff of South Korea called on Pyongyang to stop provocations by jamming GPS signals in the Yellow Sea area.
North Korea has been causing GPS interference since November 8, which has already affected several ships and dozens of civilian aircraft, the South Korean news agency Yonhap reported on Saturday, November 9, citing the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) of South Korea.

According to the OKNS, the attacks are carried out from areas of the North Korean cities of Haeju and Kaesong. Seoul warned of danger to ships and civil aircraft moving in the Yellow Sea and in the skies above it. Meanwhile, military equipment, according to the South Korean side, was not damaged. The Joint Chiefs of Staff indicated that North Korea will be responsible for its actions and called on Pyongyang to stop provocations.

It is indicated that similar actions on the part of the DPRK were recorded earlier - the last time on November 5, and before that - in the period from May 29 to June 2. At the same time, according to OKNSH, the November attacks with jamming of GPS signals were accompanied by a weaker signal than those undertaken in late May - early June.

In June, South Korea asked three international organizations of which the DPRK is a member - the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) - to take appropriate measures in connection with North Korea's provocations , follows from the Yonhap report. In response, ICAO expressed serious concern about the actions of the DPRK, indicating the name of this country for the first time.
