Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan familiarized himself with the overhaul works of the traffic section of the Kiev bridge, which were completed two weeks earlier, on August 14, instead of the planned August 29.
Project managers emphasized that the primary goal of all the implemented works is to increase traffic safety and provide safer and more comfortable conditions for citizens. In particular, deformation seams were restored, drainage and waterproofing systems were restored and installed, new galvanized blocks were installed, electric cables were dismantled from lighting poles and moved to manholes under the pavement, asphalt concrete upper layer was installed, sidewalks on both sides were asphalted, road marking works were carried out.
In the area of deformation seams, a special polymer-concrete material was used, which is used for the first time in Armenia. It is designed to reduce shocks and vibrations as much as possible during the passage of vehicles, to ensure the safety of bridge operation and to make traffic more comfortable. Until the end of the year, the strengthening and restoration of the damaged parts of the flying arch and supports of the bridge, as well as other planned works, will continue without hindering the traffic.
The Prime Minister highlighted the plans for the construction and overhaul of bridges in Armenia and emphasized that the Government plans to build or overhaul about 40 bridges in the period 2026-2031.
The Kiev Bridge was last overhauled in July-August 1995 to address drainage issues. The works were carried out in cooperation with Yerevan city government and the Ministry of Transport and Construction. The renovation was carried out with a 20-year warranty.
