Due to the ongoing war between Israel and "Hezbollah", more than 1.2 million inhabitants of Lebanon may face the problem of acute food shortage. This is stated in the report approved by the United Nations.
According to a joint statement by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Food Program (WFP) and the Lebanese Ministry of Agriculture, about 1.24 million people (almost one in four of the surveyed population) will be at a critical level of food security or worse between April and August 2026.
It is noted that the situation is much worse than before the military operations in March. At that time, the number of people with acute shortage of food already reached 874 thousand (17% of the population).
The statement emphasizes that the deterioration of the situation is related to hostilities, population displacement and economic pressures.
