The US-led military operations in Iran, conducted without NATO involvement, nevertheless exposed the alliance's weaknesses and showed its unpreparedness for a hypothetical military conflict with Russia.
This was reported by Politico, which interviewed several military experts and diplomats, as well as former and current NATO officials. The alliance's first weakness is its inability to rapidly and massively produce munitions, which, according to an unnamed source, will be discussed at the NATO summit in July.
Sources of the publication noted that the US has already spent about half of its Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems in the conflict with Iran. Moreover, if Washington continues to focus its attention on the Indo-Pacific region, the Americans will "pull a significant part of their resources" for air defense production from Europe.
