The President of the Georges Pompidou Center of Art and Culture of Paris visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial


On February 14, the president of the Georges Pompidou Center of Art and Culture in Paris, Laurent Le Bon, visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial, accompanied by Marina Hakobyan, director of the National Gallery of Armenia.

The guests were welcomed by the Director of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute Edita Gzoyan and escorted to the Armenian Genocide Memorial, presenting the history of the creation of the memorial. The director of the ATSTI also referred to the stories of the three khachkars placed in memory of the Armenians who died in the massacres organized by the Azerbaijani government in the cities of Sumgait, Kirovabad (Gandzak), Baku in the last century in the territory of Tsitsernakaberd, and the stories of the five freedom fighters buried in front of Hushapat during the Artsakh war, stressing the connection between what happened and the Armenian Genocide.

The guests from France laid flowers near the eternal fire and observed a minute of silence in memory of the innocent victims of the Armenian Genocide. Edita Gzoyan accompanied them to Hushapat, at the back of which small jars full of soil taken from the graves of a number of foreign public figures, politicians, intellectuals and missionaries who raised their voice of protest against the mass massacres of Armenians and genocide carried out by the Turkish government in the late 19th and early 20th centuries are summarized in special niches. The guests heard with great interest about the pro-Armenian activities of Anatole France and Louis Dartige du Fournay.

The director of HCTI presented the 2001 memorial placed by France on the territory of the Armenian Genocide Memorial. The monument dedicated to the recognition of the Armenian Genocide on January 29. Then the guests visited the Armenian Genocide Museum, got acquainted with the permanent and temporary exhibitions.
