Ararat Mirzoyan's statement that the international recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide is not the priority of the Republic of Armenia is an insult to the memory of millions of martyrs of the Genocide at the state level. The council of the "HayaVote" initiative issued a statement about this.
The announcement states:
"It directly violates the collective will of the founder of the Republic of Armenia, the Armenian people, and the message to all Armenian authorities to internationally recognize and condemn the first genocide of the 20th century, which is included in the founding document of the Republic of Armenia, the Declaration of Independence.
The phrases "Tragic holes in history", "Research the Armenian Genocide" fit perfectly into the logic of Turkish or Azerbaijani official speech, which impermissibly downplays the importance of the Armenian Genocide as a crime against humanity, and is questioned by four dozen countries and international organizations around the world. We express deep pain and regret that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, as a state institution that is obliged to be guided by national-state interests, leaves no response to such a political position formulated on the basis of the misconceptions of a political group or leader. We understand that Armenia it is currently in a difficult international situation, which, however, does not mean that one can abandon vital national interests.
The purpose of the international recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide is to prevent its repetition, and the state's refusal to recognize and condemn it may open the door to new crimes.
In 2023 we implemented the civil legislative initiative "HayaVote" to criminalize recognizing Artsakh as part of Azerbaijan and belittling the significance of the Armenian Genocide on behalf of the Republic of Armenia. The current regime of the Republic of Armenia is carrying out both of these crimes.
We will be consistent both in bringing to justice the perpetrators of these crimes and in realizing the collective desires of the Armenian people, particularly the self-determination of Artsakh and the international recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide. For this purpose, first of all, we must achieve the removal of the existing anti-state and anti-national regime.
