Ukrainian refugees in France receive less aid

Ukrainian refugees in France are receiving less and less government support, particularly through housing programs, Franceinfo radio reported on Monday, citing a government circular from last year that was only now made available to journalists.

"Refugees get less, 4,000 places have been allocated for them this year, compared to 9,000 in 2024. Their temporary protection status no longer provides the same benefits as at the beginning of the conflict in 2022, when they could receive temporary protection with access to social programs, financial assistance, employment and education rights," the statement said.

The circular quoted by the radio station was signed by then French Prime Minister Michel Barnier, who served as head of government from September to December 2024.
