Singapore has unveiled a package of measures aimed at encouraging families to have more children, offering parents more than $55,000 per child. The city-state is struggling to combat a declining birth rate that has made it one of the world's fastest-aging countries, the Financial Times reported.

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced a review of the child benefit and parental leave system in his annual address on August 23.

Singapore has a population of about 6 million. It is set to record a low birth rate in 2025.
