The Brazilian Foreign Ministry expressed regret that Argentina decided not to join BRICS

Brazil regrets that the new government of Argentina has decided not to accept the invitation to join BRICS, Foreign Minister Mauru Vieira said in an interview with RIA Novosti. “We regret that the new government of Argentina has chosen not to accept the invitation to join the group,” he said.

Argentine President Javier Miley, after coming to power in December 2023, notified the leaders of the BRICS countries in official letters about the country’s refusal to join the association.

BRICS is an interstate association created in 2006. Russia assumed the chairmanship of BRICS on January 1, 2024. The year began with the addition of new members to the association - in addition to the Russian Federation, Brazil, India, China and South Africa, it now includes Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Russia's BRICS Chairmanship is held under the motto of strengthening multilateralism for equitable global development and security. As part of its chairmanship, the Russian Federation organizes more than 200 political, economic and social events. The BRICS summit is taking place in Kazan from October 22 to 24.
