Putin will not travel to Baku to attend COP29

Russian President Vladimir Putin will not go to Baku to participate in the UN climate summit, the Azerbaijani source of the BBC reports.

"Russia will be represented at the event at the level of the prime minister," the source told the BBC's Azerbaijani service, confirming that the Russian president was sent an invitation along with the heads of other countries.

This is a UN event, and the organizers (in this case, the government of Azerbaijan) make no distinction when sending invitations, the source said.

To remind, this week Ukraine called on Western countries to boycott the COP29 summit in Azerbaijan, if Putin comes to that conference. Ukraine has announced that if Russian President Vladimir Putin participates in the COP-29 event to be held in Azerbaijan, Western countries should refuse to participate in that event.
