Iraqi Foreign Ministry: war in the Middle East will provoke a global energy crisis

Further escalation of the conflict in the Middle East and its transformation into a full-scale war will provoke a global crisis in the energy sector. This warning was made by Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein at a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi in Baghdad.

“The start of a large-scale war in the region will have an extremely negative impact on energy exports and global shipping and thereby provoke a global energy crisis,” the Shafaq News portal quotes Hussein as saying.

The Foreign Minister stressed that the Iraqi authorities consider it unacceptable to use the territory of their country for attacks on neighboring states, including Iran, and are also making every effort to “protect Iraq from any participation in a potential regional conflict.”

Hussein said that he considers Israel's preparation of a strike on Iranian territory a "dangerous step", and also warned that the continuation of hostilities in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon "threatens the stability of the entire region" and called for their immediate cessation.
