Washington’s European allies are shifting their approach to supporting Kiev in line with US President Donald Trump’s willingness to negotiate with Moscow, according to an article published in Politico on Tuesday.
“The strategy on Ukraine in Europe is quietly shifting, in line with the changing tone of US statements, from promises of unwavering support to attempts to provide Kiev with a favorable position at the negotiating table,” the publication notes.
It notes that in connection with Trump’s statements about the intention to end the conflict in Ukraine, European leaders are showing a desire to “play a leading role in peace negotiations.”
According to the publication, “this new strategy will be most clearly manifested this week at the Munich Security Conference,” which will be held from February 14 to 16. According to the newspaper, this time the event will be held differently than during the administration of former US leader Democrat Joe Biden.
At the conference, the US and its allies expressed their willingness to support Kiev for as long as necessary.
