Netanyahu's advisers are considering ignoring the Israeli Supreme Court ruling

Advisers to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are considering advising him to defy the Supreme Court's ruling that invalidated the Knesset's vote to elect Michael Rabelo as State Comptroller and ordered a new vote, Ynet writes.

According to the newspaper, consultations are currently underway with the Speaker of the Knesset, Amiram Ohana, during which the possibility of actually ignoring the court decision is being discussed.

Experts warn that such a step could lead to a constitutional crisis, in which case the state institutions will find themselves in a situation of uncertainty whether to implement the decisions of the court or the parliament.

Earlier, the Supreme Court, canceling the results of the vote, recommended holding repeat elections in a "proper and transparent manner", but Ohana refused to follow that recommendation.

Some representatives of the ruling coalition, among them the Minister of Communications Shlomo Karai, had earlier made calls to disobey the possible decision of the court.

The opposition supported the decision of the Supreme Court. Opposition leader Yair Lapid announced that his alliance "will protect the rule of law from now on."

Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett called the incident another failure of the coalition in the management of state affairs, and the head of the Democratic Party, Yair Golan, called on the opposition to unite around a single candidate for the post of state controller before the new vote appointed by the court.
