Greek Parliament elects Costas Tasoulas as Speaker

The Greek parliament has elected former parliament speaker Costas (Konstantinos) Tassoulas as its president. This is evidenced by the results of the fourth round of voting in the country's main legislative body. The broadcast was carried out by the Greek parliamentary Vouli TV channel.

The first three rounds of voting, held on January 25 and 31 and February 6, were unsuccessful. In the first and second rounds of voting, a two-thirds majority (200 votes in the 300-seat parliament) was required to elect the president of Greece, and in the third, three-fifths (180 votes).

In all three rounds, 160 parliamentarians voted for Tassoulas. In the fourth round, the president is elected with a majority of 151 votes. The ruling New Democracy party, which nominated Tassoulas, has 156 deputies in the highest legislative body.
