Greek Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias has denied reports of plans to transfer S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems to Armenia.
Dendias was responding to a parliamentary inquiry by Kyriakos Velopoulos, leader of the Greek Solution parliamentary party, which was sent back in mid-December 2024.
The survey stated that, according to a number of publications, the Ministry of Defense intends to decommission Russian anti-aircraft systems, including the S-300s, and replace them with new systems manufactured in Israel or another country. According to media reports, these assets are then planned to be transferred to the Armenian Air Defense, “within the framework of broad strategic cooperation with France and other partners.”
“In response to the relevant question, I would like to inform you that no decision has been made to transfer anti-aircraft weapon systems to third countries. In any case, the main criterion of the policy of the Ministry of National Defense is to maintain the country’s defense capability in full at any point in the territory of Greece,” the minister replied.
