Orban called the cold economic course of the European Union

The European Union is waging an economic cold war, limiting its own growth and reducing competitiveness. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban expressed such an opinion. That's how he commented on the prospect of introducing permanent EU duties on Chinese electric cars, which should be voted on in the union on October 4. fight with it", - noted the head of the Hungarian government. The day before, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Peter Siyarto, said that Budapest will not support the initiative of the EU to introduce compensatory measures against electric cars imported from China.

The European Commission announced the introduction of temporary duties on Chinese cars from July 4, and in September announced a proposal to introduce them on a permanent basis from November 4. The EC specified that the duty on BYD electric cars will be 17%, Geely - 19.3%, SAIC - 36.3%; on the products of all other companies that "cooperated with the investigation of the European Commission", the duty was set at the level of 21.3%, for those who did not cooperate - 36.3%. The only exception was the American Tesla electric cars produced in China, on which the EC reduced the duty by almost half - to 9%.

China has already protested this EC initiative in the World Trade Organization, making a request for consultations with the European Union. The request formally initiates a trade dispute within WTO. This mechanism gives the parties the opportunity to negotiate and try to find a solution without resorting to arbitration. If no solution is found within 60 days, then the initiator of the dispute can request arbitration within the WTO.
