Reuters. Alaska sues the US government over oil

The state of Alaska has filed a lawsuit against the outgoing administration of US President Joe Biden over restrictions imposed by the federal government on oil and gas production. This was reported by Reuters on Tuesday.

As it is noted, the authorities of Alaska were dissatisfied with the decision of the American administration in December 2024, which limited the granting of leases for the development of oil and gas fields in the state. Due to this decision, it is "impossible or impractical to develop" 400 thousand. acres (162,000 hectares) of land, the agency said in an excerpt from the filing, which also said the measures would "severely limit future oil exploration and drilling" in the Alaskan Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

The newly elected US President Donald Trump promised earlier that on the first day after taking office, he would cancel all restrictions on energy production introduced by Biden. He also announced that he would reopen the Arctic National Reserve for oil and gas extraction.
