The preliminary election campaign in Gyumri is over. The primaries reached the finish line, and the results of the three-day election were summarized on December 10. As is known, 7 candidates nominated themselves for the elections: MPs of the NA "Civil Pact" faction, Davit Arushanyan, Karen Sarukhanyan, the director of the Gyumri Regional Center of the IDP, Sarik Minasyan. , former deputy mayor of Gyumri Vahagn Mkrtchyan, Gyumri Council of Elders member Shavarsh Aramyan, 33-year-old Levon Ananyan, Emma Barseghyan, a senior specialist of the Development and Implementation Department of the Shirak Governor's Office.
And with the 253 votes received as a result of the counting of ballots, Sarik Minasyan, currently a non-partisan, became the acting mayor of Gyumri.
Are these results satisfactory, and can it be assumed from this that Gyumri rejects Pashinyan and "KP"?
MediaHub talked to Narek Mirzoyan, a member of the RPA faction of the Gyumri Council of Elders, about the issues.
If we follow the international example, then there is no similar low participation. The number of voters in Gyumri city is 109 thousand 453, and 1050 citizens participated in the primaries, i.e. 1%. And in this case, about 50 ballots were not counted because they were invalid or looked inappropriate.
As far as I know, there were even curses written on those ballots," he noted. According to Mirzoyan, the opinion of Gyumri residents was not taken into account, and it is clear that the CP no longer has a reputation in Gyumri.
"Besides, the opinions of journalists, intellectuals, cultural figures are taken into account during the primaries.
And there is nothing like that here. If you see the comments of the people of Gyumri, they say that no one asked their opinion. Therefore, the only way now is to go for extraordinary elections," our interlocutor mentioned.
Narek Mirzoyan informed that in accordance with the amendments to the "Electoral Code" at the extraordinary session of the National Assembly, extraordinary elections will be held in Gyumri in February-March.
