Cuba complained about the presence of an American submarine in its territorial waters

The Cuban government does not approve of the presence of the American attack submarine USS Helena at the US naval base in Guantanamo Bay, which is located within the borders of the country. According to the report of "Armenpress", this was announced by the Deputy Foreign Minister of Freedom Island, Carlos Fernandez de Cosio, whose words were quoted by Cubadebate. "We knew about their presence, because according to the procedure developed over the years, the USA had informed us about that visit in advance. However, we clearly do not like the presence of such means in our territory and transit through our waters, because it belongs to a state that officially and practically conducts a hostile policy towards Cuba," said the Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister. The USS Helena arrived at the Guantanamo Bay in the days when one Russian submarine and three accompanying ships arrived in Cuba on an official visit. Prior to that, a four-ship Russian tactical group consisting of the nuclear submarine "Kazan", the frigate "Admiral Gorshkov", the supply tanker "Akademikos Pashin" and the rescue tug "Nikolay Chiker" took part in the high-precision missile test exercises in the Atlantic Ocean. Within the framework of the visit, the Russian sailors will meet the command of the Cuban Navy and the governor of the capital city of Havana. The American Southern Command justified the USS Helena's arrival in Guantanamo with the need to perform daily tasks. CBS News, citing unnamed American officials, reports that the US warships will follow the visit of the Russians. It is noted that Washington does not consider the situation as a threat, but it does not consider it unnecessary to monitor the Russians at all.
