The Washington administration expects that the further developments of the situation in South Korea will take place in accordance with democratic norms.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinkken announced this in a telephone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, Cho Tae-yol.
He "expressed deep concern about the imposition of martial law in the Republic of Korea and welcomed its lifting," State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said in a written statement Thursday.
As follows from the document, the head of the American foreign policy department "expressed confidence in the stability of democracy in the Republic of Korea".
Miller said Blinken "expects the democratic process in the Republic of Korea to prevail."
