Trump said Canada could become the 51st US state

US President-elect Donald Trump, during a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, threatened him that the country could become the “51st state” of the United States due to the increased problem of illegal migration at the border.

This is reported by the Fox News channel. As the channel's sources noted, Trump, in a conversation with Trudeau at the Mar-a-Lago estate, told the Canadian Prime Minister that immediately after taking office he intends to introduce duties on the import of goods in the amount of 25%. According to Trump, this scenario is possible if Canada does not assist the United States on the issue of limiting the flow of illegal immigrants into the United States across the Canadian border. Trump responded to Trudeau’s argument that a significant increase in import duties on Canadian goods would have an extremely negative impact on the Canadian economy. noted that the country could become the 51st US state.

Prior to this, Trudeau promised to strengthen security on the border between the two countries. Trudeau confirmed to Trump that Canada plans to strengthen security measures at the border, including increasing the number of helicopter patrols. Canadian Minister of Public Safety Dominic emphasized that the country intends to purchase additional unmanned aerial vehicles, police helicopters, and also increase the number of officers at the border. Previously, the United States proposed to join several states to Canada.
