Scholz urged not to play “Russian roulette” with the safety of Germany

Germany cannot play Russian roulette with its security through a Russian ultimatum. This was called for by the current German Chancellor Olaf Scholz during his first election speech at the conference of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) in Berlin, broadcast of which is available on the party’s YouTube channel.

According to the politician, his opponent Friedrich Merz wants to present an ultimatum to Russia, in case of failure to comply with which German cruise missiles will be directed far into its territory. “Caution! You can’t play Russian roulette with German security,” he said.

Scholz called for continued support for Ukraine without Germany being drawn into the conflict. Earlier, the German Ambassador to Russia Alexander Lambsdorff said that in a recent telephone conversation between the German Chancellor and Russian President Vladimir Putin, the head of the German government asked the Russian leader not to follow the “cruel logic of war.” The diplomat said that Germany adheres to a consistent position according to which the conflict can only be resolved through Russian-Ukrainian negotiations.
