Global sugar prices rose by 4% on August 18, reaching $0.176 per pound, which is the highest level since May 22, 2025, Kommersant writes.
October crude sugar futures rose as high as $0.176 a pound in midday trading, then adjusted to settle at $0.173, up 2.73% from the previous reading. The price of sugar has increased by 17.7% since the beginning of August, and by 26% in the last six months.
By early August, October futures had already hit their highest since October 2025 at $0.165 per pound.
The increase in prices is primarily attributed to a decrease in raw material supplies from Brazil, one of the world's largest sugar producers. An additional factor has been fears of a possible drop in production in Europe due to the unprecedented hot weather.
Thus, after a notable increase in August, the sugar market continues to maintain an upward trend amid deepening concerns about supply volumes.
