The Latvian-Belarusian border will be temporarily closed for technical reasons. This was announced by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Latvia, Janis Dombrava. The State Border Guard Committee of Belarus did not confirm the information about the border closure.
"The minister did not specify how long the border will be closed. We ask those who have not yet returned to Latvia to use other routes," Mr. Dombrava wrote in X. Yesterday, he called on his compatriots to leave Belarus as soon as possible or refuse to visit the country because of the "hybrid war" allegedly unleashed by Minsk.
In Latvia, the enhanced protection regime of the border with Belarus operates until the end of 2026. The Ministry of Internal Affairs explained its necessity with the increasing number of illegal logging by Belarus. In June 2026, Latvian border guards stopped 2.2 thousand such cases, against 1.7 thousand in April.
