US embassies in Israel and other Middle Eastern countries are urging their citizens to be prepared to travel amid tensions with Iran.
"U.S. embassies in Jerusalem and other Middle Eastern capitals are urging American citizens in the Middle East to avoid travel to the region and be prepared to leave because of the possibility of an unexpected escalation in the conflict with Iran," the Times of Israel reported Saturday.
"Due to rising tensions in the Middle East, the security situation remains challenging with the potential for unexpected escalation," US diplomatic missions in several regions said in a statement.
The report notes that "the Iranian regime is unpredictable, as demonstrated by its recent decisions to attack areas in the region without warning or provocation, as well as to expand attacks into previously untargeted areas such as Egypt."
"Americans in the region should consider leaving or be prepared to leave if tensions escalate. Americans outside the Middle East should seriously reconsider plans to travel to and through the region," the US diplomatic mission said in a statement.
