Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is ready to hold personal talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to resolve the differences between the two countries. He announced this at the press conference dedicated to the end of the session of the Japanese Diet.
Speaking about the issue of Japanese citizens abducted by North Korean intelligence in the 1970s, Takaichi reiterated his desire to resolve it during his tenure as prime minister. "I clearly understand that there is no need to waste time. I want to make progress during my tenure and resolve this issue at any cost. With this determination, without excluding any option, including a summit with President Kim Jong Un, I intend to continue my efforts to resolve the abduction issue as quickly as possible," he emphasized.
Takaichi has stated his willingness to hold personal talks with Kim Jong Un several times, including shortly after he was elected prime minister in late 2025. Then he informed that Pyongyang was immediately informed about the relevant position of the Japanese side.
