The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia, Zhanna Andreasyan, met the Director General of UNESCO, Khaled El-Enani, as part of her working visit to the Republic of France.

Artur Martirosyan, the Deputy Minister of KGSMS, and Aram Hakobyan, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia to UNESCO, also participated in the meeting.
Congratulating UNESCO Director General Khaled El-Enani on his assumption of office, Zhanna Andreasyan wished him success, stressing that Armenia is actively involved in UNESCO's working groups and is ready to continuously contribute to the effective implementation of the organization's priorities.
The Director General of UNESCO thanked Armenia for initiating the recently unanimously adopted "Education for Peace" resolution at the UN General Assembly, emphasizing its importance in terms of strengthening the culture of peace and international recognition of the role of education. In her turn, Zhanna Andreasyan emphasized that the importance of the role of education on international platforms is of fundamental importance for Armenia, as a fundamental factor for the establishment of peace, mutual understanding and sustainable development.
The parties also referred to the Biodiversity Conference of the Parties to be held in Yerevan this fall, COP17, noting that a number of events are planned within that framework, including the participation of UNESCO.
Turning to the education sector, the Minister of Education and Culture presented the plan for the development of RA education until 2030. the main directions of the state program, emphasizing the improvement of the quality of education, ensuring inclusiveness, digital transformation and the development of affordable education. He highlighted the importance of UNESCO's expert support in the development of educational policies, particularly in the reforms of professional education and training, emphasizing the effectiveness of jointly implemented programs.
During the meeting, reference was also made to the activities of the UNESCO Associated Schools Network in Armenia, as well as our state's participation in the upcoming educational initiatives of the organization, including the "Digital Learning Week" event to be held in Paris in September 2026.
Touching on the culture sphere, the Minister of CSMS reaffirmed Armenia's commitment to the effective implementation of UNESCO's cultural conventions and the preservation of world cultural heritage. He informed that the process of ratification of the 2001 UNESCO Convention "On the Protection of Underwater Cultural Heritage" is underway.
UNESCO Director General Khaled El-Enani thanked for the meeting and highly appreciated Armenia's active involvement in the organization's programs and initiatives. He emphasized that Armenia is one of the reliable partners of UNESCO, emphasizing especially the joint work carried out in the fields of education, culture and preservation of cultural heritage.
At the end of the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their willingness to further deepen cooperation.
