The text of the EU-Armenia joint statement

Hraparak.am:writes:

We were informed that the Armenia-EU summit organized within the framework of Nikol Pashinyan's campaign will end with a joint statement of the participants. They are trying to make the event more impressive and memorable in that way, so that by June 7, the Armenian voter will not forget who the European Union supports. At the same time, Pashinyan will have a document in his hands, with which he will be able to influence the voters by manipulating the prospect of new wars.

We have obtained the text of that statement consisting of 44 points, the full version of which is presented at the end of the article. Let us single out a few important points from that statement, reminiscent of a long, feminine text.

Point 8: "The EU reaffirmed its principled position on Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine and reaffirmed its support for Ukraine's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders."

The adoption of such a statement is an unprecedented phenomenon in the territory of the CSTO and EAEU member states, it is not difficult to predict what economic and diplomatic consequences it will have for Armenia. It is interesting that Russia is an aggressor in the eyes of Europeans, and Azerbaijan, which destroys churches in the territory of Artsakh and deploys troops in the sovereign territory of Armenia, is mentioned only in a positive context.

In point 11, within the framework of the "Global Gateway" strategy, EU investments in Armenia are expected to reach 2.5 billion euros. This is the unspent 2.5 billion that have been promised to us since time immemorial, but never given.
The Europeans do not hesitate to remind once again that they promise to give 2.5 billion to Armenia, which has lost Artsakh and sheltered 120 thousand refugees.

In point 12, the "peace-loving" Europeans support and welcome Pashinyan's dead "Crossroads of Peace" and Trump's "Tripp" written on the ice - on the principle that there should be more, not less, then there is neither one nor the other.
The next points are devoted to energy integration and nuclear power plant closure, which the EU warmly welcomes.

In point 23, the Europeans welcome the "significant progress" of the visa liberalization dialogue launched in 2024, although anyone who has tried to apply for a Schengen visa at least once in the last two years at any embassy knows what a significant "progress" has taken place, how you stand in line for 3 to 9 months, and then one day you will get one, or only God knows, in short, "serious progress".

In point 27, "We appreciate the growing cooperation between the EU and Armenia to strengthen Armenia's democratic resilience, including against hybrid threats and foreign information manipulation and interference, as well as against attempts to undermine trust in democratic institutions." The deployment of the EU Hybrid Rapid Response Team has been an important contribution to this bilateral cooperation." The most democratic Europeans absolutely do not want to see the fact of political prisoners in Armenia, Facebook justice and campaigns against the church, but they are fighting a very "effective" fight against the fictitious hybrid war.

In point 37, "The EU remains Armenia's main trading partner and investor, supporting sustainable growth, job creation and economic diversification." this point raises many questions, whether the trade turnover with the EAEU is not several times more than with the EU, what diversification has taken place that we are not aware of, or how sustainable growth has been supported.

And finally, in point 44, "We look forward to exploring further steps to advance the Armenia-EU partnership for the benefit of our people and businesses."

To say that this 44-point statement gives nothing to Armenia, but only welcomes and encourages, is to say nothing, this statement is almost guaranteed to have a negative impact on our relations with both our strategic and economic partners, without creating any alternative.

HG: It is possible that the final version of the announcement will be slightly edited, but it is unlikely that it will undergo major changes, you can read the original below.

Joint statement after the first Armenia-EU summit

May 5, 2026, Yerevan

We, the leaders of the Republic of Armenia (Armenia) and the European Union (EU), held the first Armenia-EU summit in Yerevan on May 5, 2026 and reached the following conclusions:

1. Today's summit marks an important historical milestone in the deepening of Armenia-EU relations. It reflects the significant achievements of recent years and the strategic importance of our partnership, which brings tangible benefits to our citizens and businesses. The EU reaffirms its firm commitment to continue to strengthen relations with Armenia and support Armenia's sovereignty, resilience and comprehensive reform agenda. Based on respect for democracy, human rights, fundamental freedoms and the rule of law, as well as for long-term development, Armenia and its people are moving closer to the European Union. The EU also supports Armenia's willingness to deepen bilateral partnership through sectoral integration and approximation to the EU legal system (acquis).

2. The EU accepts the European aspirations of the Armenian people, which are fixed by the law "On the start of Armenia's EU membership process" adopted in March 2025, expressing the country's intention to move towards the EU.

3. We reaffirm that the future of Armenia must be decided in a free and democratic way by its citizens.

4. We accept Armenia's commitment to building a deep and stable democracy, as set out in the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement and the Armenia-EU Strategic Partnership Agenda. These documents provide an ambitious policy framework to guide our cooperation in the coming years. In this context, it is important to emphasize the role of civil society in monitoring the implementation of bilateral obligations.

5. We welcome the 8th Summit of the European Political Community, which was successfully held in Yerevan on May 4, 2026.

6. Armenia and the EU are united by common political values and their commitment to the international order based on international law, the UN Charter and rules. We reaffirm the basic principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity. The deepening of our bilateral relations is an investment in peace, stability and prosperity in the South Caucasus and beyond.

7. In this regard, we welcome efforts to further institutionalize peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the need to ensure the signing and ratification of a peace treaty. We also highly appreciate the results of the August 8, 2025 Washington summit and the subsequent steps towards the normalization of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations. In addition, the EU fully supports the normalization of Armenia-Turkey relations and the inclusive reopening of all communications in the region, based on the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, as well as the inviolability of borders and reciprocity. We also appreciate the contribution of the EU mission to Armenia in promoting peace and stability in the South Caucasus.

8. Regarding Ukraine, the parties expressed concern about the ongoing war, which is causing enormous human suffering and has global consequences. We support all efforts to achieve a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine. based on the UN Charter and principles of international law. The EU reaffirmed its principled position on Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine and reaffirmed its support for Ukraine's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.
