Despite tough public rhetoric, Iran and the United States continue behind-the-scenes talks and their positions are converging, CNN reported, citing sources familiar with the mediation.
Although the second round of the US-Iran negotiations did not take place in Pakistan, TV channel sources say that the positions of the two sides are not as different as it might seem.
According to CNN's sources, "there is intense diplomacy going on behind the scenes, and current talks are focused on a phased process in which the first part of a potential deal would focus on returning to the status quo and reopening the Strait of Hormuz without restrictions or tariffs."
Meanwhile, the issue of Iran's nuclear program, which prompted the US and Israel to launch military operations against Iran, "will be discussed later."
"Mediators are putting pressure on both sides to reach an agreement, and the next few days will be particularly important. "Behind all this is the fear that the USA may decide to withdraw from the negotiations and return to the war," the sources of the TV channel said.
US President Donald Trump has stated many times in the past that he will demand, by any means, that Iran give up its uranium reserves intended for weapons, as well as the enrichment process. Iran categorically refuses to accept such demands.
