Former US President Barack Obama has announced that his and Michelle Obama's production company, Higher Ground Productions, is ending cooperation with Netflix and going independent.
The announcement was made at an event dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the United States of America held in Philadelphia. Obama noted that after eight years of cooperation, the company will work with different film studios, no longer limited to one platform. He reminded that the contract with Netflix was signed in 2018, and it was extended in 2024 in the first-look format.
During this time, Higher Ground Productions released the films "Rustin", "American Symphony", "Crip Camp", "American Factory", as well as the projects "Bodkin" and "Leave the World Behind". Recently, the company has started cooperating with other platforms, including HBO.
