Macron: Paris is ready to help secure shipping in the Strait of Hormuz

France is ready to contribute to the safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. This was announced by President Emmanuel Macron after a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian.

"It is necessary for Iran to restore the freedom and security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible, and France is ready to contribute to this," Macron wrote in his letter.

According to the head of state, in the conversation with the Iranian president, he emphasized "the importance of maintaining the ceasefire, including in Lebanon."

"France fully supports the actions of the Lebanese authorities, which are the only legitimate authorities," Macron emphasized.

He expressed the opinion that Iran should "take advantage of the opportunity provided by the talks that started in Islamabad to pave the way for sustainable de-escalation and a meaningful agreement providing reliable security guarantees with the participation of all involved countries in the region."
