Checks of all Georgian citizens at EU borders will be tightened

The checks of all Georgian citizens at the EU border will be strengthened against the background of the partial suspension of the visa-free regime, European Commission spokesman Marcus Lammert announced at a briefing in Brussels.

Earlier, on Friday, the European Union suspended the visa-free entry regime for holders of Georgian diplomatic and service passports for 12 months from March 6.

"Another important point on this issue is that with today's decision, the Commission has adopted new recommendations for Member States, consular authorities and border services to support them in the effective implementation of the decision to suspend the visa-free regime. This also means that checks on Georgian citizens crossing the EU's external borders will be strengthened to prevent circumvention of the new measures," he said.
