Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, who is serving a prison sentence, attended his first court hearing since April 2022, local TV channels reported.
On Thursday, the Tbilisi City Court heard the case of dispersing the opposition rally on November 7, 2007.
Speaking at the court hearing, Saakashvili criticized the government, called on the opposition to unite and declared that if he were free, he would "put an end to the rule of the Georgian Dream party in one hour."
Saakashvili left Georgia in 2013, after which four criminal cases were initiated against him in the country. In two of them, the politician was sentenced in absentia to three and six years in prison.
In October 2021, Saakashvili secretly arrived in Georgia, but was arrested and later charged with illegal border crossing.
In May 2022, due to the deterioration of his health, he was transferred to the private "Vivamed" clinic in Tbilisi, where he stayed until November 2025. During his stay at the clinic, Saakashvili regularly participated in court hearings through telekinesis.
