Switzerland's economy minister will become president in 2026

Guy Parmelen, Minister of Economy of Switzerland, was elected president of 2026 by the members of both chambers of the Federal Assembly (parliament) of the confederation. This was announced on the official website of the parliament, X.

In Switzerland, the president is not the head of the state. this is the collective authority of the country's Federal Council (government). The position of the president is held by the members of the government consisting of seven ministers in rotation during one calendar year.

According to the report, Parmelin, who represents the right-wing conservative Swiss People's Party (SVP) in the government, received 203 out of 210 votes.

He will take office on January 1 and will serve until 2026, combining presidential powers with ministerial duties.
