The leaders of Israel and Hamas are accused of war crimes

Voice of America writes: The statement of the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, demanding the arrest of the leaders of "Hamas" and Israel, received a sharp response. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned Khan. "Mr. Khan draws a distorted and false equation between Israel's leaders and Hamas puppets. This is like equating [US] President George W. Bush with Osama Bin Laden after September 11 [2001], or between Franklin Roosevelt and Hitler during World War II.” The International Criminal Court prosecutor accused Netanyahu and the Israel Defense Forces. minister Yoav Galanti for war crimes and crimes against humanity, including using starvation as a weapon of war. Israel is not a member of the said court, so if the decision to arrest Netanyahu is made, the Israeli prime minister and defense minister will not be prosecuted in their home country. But such a ruling could prevent them from traveling abroad. Israeli lawyers dispute the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court to make such a decision, saying that such a ruling cannot be made against the leaders of democracies that have an independent judicial system. Anne Herzberg says: "The court should exercise this jurisdiction only in cases where states are unwilling or unable to investigate war crimes or crimes against humanity. Israel has a strong investigative system in the army, civil justice, an [independent] judicial system." The Palestinian side also condemns the words of the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court. Karim Khan is demanding an arrest warrant be dropped for Hamas political leader Ismail Haniya and two other leaders of the organization.
