During the 44-day war, most of the air defense equipment used by Armenia was scrap, and the allies provided only symbolic support to Armenia, RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan wrote about this on his Facebook page, referring to the statements of RA's third president, Serzh Sargsyan.
"What is there to not understand? the anti-aircraft system you left behind, not the individual means, but, in general, the anti-aircraft system was scrap metal. Metal scrap in the truest sense of the word. And the Allies were showing us three finger combinations in response to requests to renew them (you were also shown three finger combinations, otherwise there would be something else instead of scrap metal as of 2018).
And so that suddenly showing us a combination of three fingers wouldn't be too eye-popping, the allies gave us one or two symbolic things, 0.1 percent of the necessary, so that they would have something to point to when the topic was opened later," wrote the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister noted that the fact of being a member of the CSTO and the possible deployment of funds in other regions also affected the level of support. "In particular, two circumstances were pointed out: being a member of the CSTO of RA and the fact that the provided funds could be deployed in areas that are not the sovereign territory of RA," Pashinyan wrote.
The Prime Minister also noted that the government at that time was accordingly trying to acquire and modernize what was possible, referring also to the existing military leadership and the recommendations they provided. Pashinyan invited to discuss the topic live, commenting on the reaction to the criticisms.
"We were trying to get it wherever possible, we were trying to modernize it, by the way, in response to the advice and recommendations of the highest-ranking military personnel operating in RA at that time," wrote the Prime Minister.
