The Zhoghovurd daily writes: “According to the information of the Zhoghovurd daily, the government had initially decided not to cede the position of head of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Territorial Administration and Environmental Issues to the opposition.
According to our sources, an important factor for the government in this matter was the current chairman of the committee, Hayk Ghalumyan, who has godfather-patron ties with Nikol Pashinyan.
According to the information of the Zhoghovurd daily, during discussions within the government, one of the options was that the leadership of the committee would continue to remain in the hands of the government, and Ghalumyan would retain a key role in the committee, including as vice-chairman.
It is noteworthy that last week the Strong Armenia bloc nominated two candidates for the position of chairman of the committee: first Davit Ghazinyan, then Irina Yolyan. However, both candidates were not elected.
The ruling MPs presented the reason for not electing the candidates as a principled approach. According to them, there are criminal proceedings against both Ghazinyan and Yolyan, and the government is not going to vote for candidates in such a situation.
However, against the background of this justification, another circumstance is noteworthy: “Strong Armenia” apparently did not go ahead with the nomination of a third candidate after the second unsuccessful attempt. According to our sources, the opposition understood that even if a new candidate is nominated, the government may not elect him again.
Thus, in the current situation, the position of the head of the commission continues to remain within the logic of keeping the government under control.
It is also noteworthy that Hayk Ghalumyan has been heading this committee for years and is especially active during fights in parliament.
In fact, it turns out that the government officially speaks about the existence of criminal proceedings against the candidates and the principle of not electing them, but in reality the reason is that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's godfather Hayk Ghalumyan is the problem, who should manage the committee.
The answer to this question will probably become clearer in the near future, when it finally becomes clear who will head the committee and in what capacity Hayk Ghalumyan will continue to work there.
