"Fact" daily writes:
"Meruzhans or, as he was often called, Mozhs, was very lively. With the hammer in his hand, he was constantly repairing something, he was constantly in motion," said Mrs. Nelly, Merujan's mother, in a conversation with "Fact". He was born in Gyumri, his childhood, adolescence, youth, his very short life passed here. The mother says that her son's interests during his school years were mathematics and physics. “Maybe physics more than math. He was not indifferent to English, it was also due to the factor of the teacher, whom he loved very much." After graduating from school, Meruzhan entered the "Applied Mathematics" faculty of Yerevan State University. "Meruzhan was very capable, but he was lazy, he didn't study. The lecturers with whom he practiced said that he does not open a book, but presents everything with our story. They always said that if you practice a little, make an effort, you will get better results. He entered university, studied for a year and was drafted into compulsory military service. When Meruzhan was in the army, my husband died. When he was already demobilized, he switched to distance learning already at the Informatics Department, moved to Gyumri so that he could both study and work." During the Four-Day War, Meruzhan was a conscript soldier, he served in Berd, Tavush region. "There was also unrest in those days, positions were raised. not being in Artsakh, he seemed to have felt the breath of war, he always said, "I know what it is." From the very first days of the war, Meruzhan has been engaged in helping the boys fighting on the battlefield. "On the day the war started, we attended a wedding in Yerevan. Nothing could be seen in his eyes either. We came home, he didn't sleep all night, he agreed with the taxi driver to get to Gyumri in the morning. There are videos showing the work Meruzhan was doing: collecting tires, food, everything possible. People were brought, he collected everything, and he himself delivered everything, reached various hotspots. The priest of the church in Goris told me: you have such a boy, indescribable. Help was brought to Goris, they could not find anyone to empty the goods. Mozh had organized everything, the cars had been unloaded." Understanding and feeling what is happening in Artsakh in those days, Meruzhan decides to get involved in military operations. "When he saw what was happening, he decided that he should join the boys. He said that we should help the 18-year-olds, stand by them, many of them are just learning how to hold a weapon. He spoke as if he was so old. After the wedding, we were all infected with the coronavirus, we did not come home without getting infected. I told him: come home, touch me, smell you, I miss you. He responded jokingly: "Do you want me not to go?" I have to go anyway. It was October 17, he opened the closet, "Mom, what clothes do I have that I don't wear?" That very day he went to the battlefield. He was sure that we will win." Meruzhan died on October 21 in Sarushen village of Hadrut. "Seeing his enthusiasm and activity, Meruzhan was appointed commander of the squad. He was obeyed, loved and appreciated, now I hear so many stories about Meruzhan. Meruzhan manages to be in various hotspots during those few days. The six boys fall into a siege. The retreat order is not obeyed. "We have to move on." He had so much hope that we would win. I was sick, my fever was not going down, he called that night, in fact, it was the night of the incident. "Mom dear, how are you?" Left a voicemail. He tells the boys: God is with us, dear, it will be fine. These are his last words. He also said: if something happens to me, you will take him to my papa, as if he had a premonition." The family has been waiting for a month. "We were looking for him everywhere. My brother and my cousin went to Artsakh, they were told where to go. The bodies were with the Turks. November 22 is my brother's birthday. That day he called. "Nel, I have found Meruzhan, my "gift" has happened. I asked if he was alive. My brother responded, no. I had so much hope that he would come, he had so much faith. He had brought a bundle of candles from the church: "Mom, will you light the candles until I come?" During the war, he used to walk from Gyumri to Saint Hovhannes early in the morning. I always said that he will be saved thanks to his faith." About the power to live. "Meruzhan was a life in itself, there was so much energy in him. I loved him so much, more than my life, I wanted to end my life after him. But my daughter said, "Mom, if something happens to you, I will come after you." And I sobered up. My daughter gave me the strength to live. It is also very difficult for him, he lost his brother after his father. Now my daughter has started a family. We give each other strength. I know that Meruzhan is there, he is with us, I live with the hope that he is by my side every minute." When Mrs. Nellie and I were talking about Merujan, a pigeon came and sat on their balcony. Mom said: "It's like my son's soul, he tells me: I'm always by your side." H. C. - Meruzhan Grigoryan was posthumously awarded the "Combat Service" medal. He is buried in the Gyumri cemetery next to his father. Lusine Arakelyan
