The mechanism of resistance to cancer was found to "turn off"

London Kings College scientists have created a drug named Kcl-Ho-1I, which can destroy the mechanisms of resistance to the chemical chemotherapy. The results of the study were published in Science Translational Medicine (STM) magazine.

Chemotherapy remains one of the main methods of treatment of cancer, but in many cases its efficiency decreases. One of the main reasons is the defense reaction of the body. We are talking about macrofags, special white blood cells. They can create a barrier around the blood vessels inside the tumor, preventing the penetration of immune cells responding to treatment.

Researchers have found that Macrofags produce Ham Oxygenaz-1 (HO-1) protein, which protects the tumor from the impact of the immune system and blocks the work of chemotherapy. It is HO-1 Targeting KCL-Ho-1I new drug.

"By influencing KCL-Ho-1 to cancer, we were able to strengthen the impact of useful immune cells and chemotherapy. "Sustainable tumors in laboratory models have become sensitive to treatment," said Professor James Arnold.

Developers note that in contrast to many treatments that require hospital, KCL-Ho-1I can be accepted at home as part of pills between chemotherapy. This will allow the medication to include the treatment program without the patient and the medical system on an additional load.

During the early pre-clinical tests on breast cancer mice, KCL-Ho-1I increased the sensitivity of tumors to the treatment of several widespread chemotherapy. According to scientists, this approach can be used to treat various cancers and used together with various therapeutic modes.
