Scientists have found that a certain type of feet swelling increases the risk of developing cancer

The scientists of the Mayo Clinic have proved that the Lymphedeman of the lower limbs increases the risk of developing several skin cancer. The study was published in the Mayo Clinic Proceedings magazine.

The authors of the new work have analyzed the data of 4437 patients of the established cases of Lymphatem of the lower limbs. Compared to the controller group that does not have a disease, they had a higher risk for the development of basal mobile and flat cell skin cancer. Some patients had a lymphedem of only on one leg. At the same time, the likelihood of skin cancer development was almost three times higher than healthy.

Lymphedeman is a steady swelling of soft tissues that occurs due to lymph leak disorder. It can occur due to surgery or cancer treatment, in which case lymph nodes are removed or damaged. In rare cases, the reason for the lymphedem is hereditary diseases. In the past, this situation was linked to the risk of dermatitis, trophic ulcers and other skin diseases. The authors of the study believe that patients with lymphedem should be regularly examined by the dermatologist to detect cancer at an early stage.
