Sergey Nersisyan died

We were deeply saddened to learn that Sergey Nersisyan, a former employee of the Byurakan Observatory, passed away at the age of 77. It is reported on the observatory's FB page.

Sergey Nersisyan was born in 1947. on January 6. In 1970, after graduating from the Faculty of Physics of Yerevan State University (YSU), he was immediately employed at the Byurakan Observatory, where he worked first as a senior laboratory assistant, then as a researcher until 2001.

His scientific interests were carbon stars and star clusters. In 1987 S. Nersisyan was awarded the Phys.-Math. degree of candidate of sciences.

Since 2002, worked in Kh. Abovyan Yerevan State Pedagogical University as a physics and astrophysics lecturer.

In addition to his scientific activities, he published the popular book "Starry Sky" (2000) and the textbook "Astronomy for Secondary Schools" (2003).

He participated in the International Astronomical Olympiads as the leader of the Armenian team and was a member of the jury of the Armenian Republican Astronomical Olympiads.

In 2014, he was awarded the Galilean Teacher Program (GTTP) certification.

S. Nersisyan was a member of the Armenian Astronomical Society (ASS).
