EU leaders are preparing a tough message to Georgia ahead of the elections

The leaders of the European Union (EU) countries are going to warn Georgia that the republic's government is endangering the country's path to political unification. According to Reuters, the corresponding statement was included in the draft conclusion of the EU summit, which will be held in Brussels on October 17-18.

As mentioned in the article, Tbilisi received the status of a candidate for EU membership at the end of 2023, but the rhetoric and actions of the ruling "Georgian Dream" party caused concern in European capitals.

The EU document "confirms the Union's readiness to support the Georgian people on their European journey", but also "reiterates its serious concern about the actions of the Georgian authorities".

In addition, the EU will emphasize that the actions of the country's authorities "endanger Georgia's path to the EU and de facto stop the membership process."
