Sarine Abrahamyan, member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation, ex-vice president of IUSY, Sarine Abrahamyan, who replaces Bruno Gonzalez, a member of the Socialist Party of Portugal, was elected the new general secretary of the International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY).
The latter submitted his resignation due to the circumstance of being elected as a member of the European Parliament. Sarine Abrahamyan has been an active member of the EUMM for many years. was elected vice-president of the organization and coordinator of the Black Sea region. In cooperation with the Youth Office of the ARF Bureau, he played a key role in various projects, including the works aimed at the recognition and compensation of the Armenian Genocide by the Armenian Genocide, as a result of which in 2015 A resolution was adopted during the session of the World Council of the EUMM in Yerevan. Together with the ARF Youth Office, with Abrahamyan's assistance, a successful familiarization visit to Artsakh was organized, involving the leadership and members of IUSY and Young European Socialists (YES). Throughout his tenure at IUSY, he was the driving force behind international recognition of Artsakh and the right to self-determination of the Artsakh people, as well as IUSY's efforts to condemn Azerbaijan's aggression. As a result of Sarine Abrahamyan's work, IUSY has consistently supported the realization of the rights of the people of Artsakh, including their collective right of return, and condemned Azerbaijan's policy of ethnic cleansing. These positions have been expressed in several resolutions and official statements. In addition, Abrahamyan has worked to highlight democratic challenges in Armenia, including repression of opposition forces and the use of disproportionate police force by the current government of Armenia. His activism extends beyond the borders of Armenia, defending social-democratic ideas, social justice and addressing climate change both regionally and globally. Through his work, he continues to uphold the core values and principles of IUSY, such as justice, equality, freedom and international solidarity.
Sarine Abrahamyan was also the head of the ARF youth office and currently holds the position of public relations and communication officer of the ARF Armenian Dat Europe office. Referring to this election, Abrahamyan says, "This is a significant opportunity not only for the ARF youth and the ARF, but also for Armenia and for Armenians. IUSY is an important platform for highlighting Armenian issues on the world stage, while at the same time we promote social democratic and progressive values. I realize the responsibility that comes with this position, representing both IUSY and the ARF, and I am excited to lead this organization, which consists of more than 160 youth socialist, social democratic and labor organizations. I am deeply grateful to everyone who has supported me during this time.” The International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY) is a large international organization that includes socialist, social-democratic and labor youth unions. Founded in 1907 as the Youth Socialist International, IUSY now represents 163 member organizations in 110 countries.
