Fluorography will stop in hospitals and polyclinics in Armenia

Armenian hospitals and polyclinics will stop performing fluorography, and the relevant equipment will be decommissioned. The relevant decision was made at today's, February 13, session of the RA Government.

The decision was made taking into account the fact that, according to the conclusion of the Ministry of Health, fluorography does not meet the requirements of current medical science.

Fluorography has a low degree of diagnostic efficiency, in practice, for some diseases it is necessary to additionally perform other radiological or radiation diagnostic examinations (e.g., digital X-ray, computed tomography).

At the same time, in parallel with the development of technologies, the radiation load caused by digital X-ray examination devices has decreased several times, equaling the load caused by a fluorography device.

The same trend is also observed in the case of computed tomography.
