French President Emmanuel Macron has criticized US President Donald Trump's idea of taking control of the Gaza Strip and expelling Palestinians from there. His words are quoted by CNN. Macron said that the Middle East peace process should be "not a real estate purchase, but a political act" and take into account the Palestinians' desire for their own state.
"Gaza is not some empty space. It is a country where two million people live and want to live.
We cannot say to these two million, 'You know, you have to leave.' The right way now is to save the civilian population. There is a ceasefire in place now, it must be maintained. We must resume humanitarian operations and save as many people as possible," Macron said.
