South Korea evacuated 96 citizens from Lebanon by military plane

A military plane brought home 96 citizens of South Korea from Lebanon as part of the first evacuation operation against the background of escalation of tension in the region, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea reported. "Military transport plane KC-330, helping to return to South Korea 97 of its citizens and their family members from Lebanon, landed on Saturday at 12.50 (6.50 Moscow time) at the Seoul airport", - reported the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The plane took off from Beirut on Friday afternoon and landed at the Seoul airport in Sonnam, south of Seoul.

According to officials, 96 citizens of South Korea and one family member of a South Korean, who is a citizen of Lebanon, were on board. Evacuation is carried out due to the ongoing escalation of hostilities in the region. "Our government will continue to closely monitor the situation in Lebanon and the Middle East in order to ensure the safety of our citizens. We will take all necessary measures to protect them," the ministry's press release said. On Wednesday, President Yun Sok Ehl ordered the immediate dispatch of a military transport plane to deliver South Korean citizens home.

As of Wednesday, there were about 130 citizens of South Korea in Lebanon, not including diplomats and their family members.
